Plumbers in Christchurch charge $90–$160 per hour plus GST for standard work. Most hot water jobs are quoted as a fixed price rather than hourly. After-hours and emergency rates are $150–$250 per hour. Always ask for a fixed quote before work begins.
For hot water system replacement, almost all reputable Christchurch plumbers offer fixed price quotes. This gives you certainty over the total cost. Hourly rates apply more often to small repairs or unexpected complications. Ask upfront: 'Can you give me a fixed price?' A trustworthy plumber will say yes for straightforward work.
Yes — for a full hot water replacement, getting 2–3 quotes can save $300–$600. Compare like-for-like: same brand, size, warranty, and scope. The cheapest quote isn't always best if it cuts corners on compliance.
